  Re: Customise shutdown options

Fri Sep 18, 2015 10:33 amThere may be other ways to do it but I add it to the menu, then it will show up under Installed Applications and you can add it to the Launch Bar. Plus you'll then have it listed in the menu.

Since this is a shutdown button we'll place it under the "System Tools" heading in the menu. We'll need to add a category to the .desktop file to do that, otherwise it will place it in "Other".Code:

Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Shutdown
Comment=Shutdown RPi
Categories=System
Icon=gnome-logout
Exec=sudo shutdown -h now
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=false

Save that file to /usr/share/applications Since that directory belongs to root you'll have to use "sudo"

Now use the following command, the taskbar will disappear for a couple seconds then come back and the "Shutdown" item should show up in the menu under "System Tools".

Code:

Select all

lxpanelctl restart

Assuming you have the Launch Bar already added to the panel right click on it and choose "Application Launch Bar Settings". Under the "Installed Applications" click on "System Tools" to expand it and you should see "Shutdown" listed. Select that and then "OK" and it should show up instantly in the Launch Bar.

If the logout icon you've chosen does not show up, and you get the default generic icon, you can add the full path to it. Or you can use any 32x32 .png

Code:

Select all
Icon=/usr/share/lxpanel/images/gnome-logout.png
EDIT: Fixed typos
